Selection FAQ

What's the difference between Isolating, Filtered, and Pass-through?

Isolating plugs block sound across the full range — best for sleep and high-noise isolation. Filtered plugs use a calibrated insert that lowers volume while keeping speech and music intelligible. Pass-through designs are sleeves around earbuds or electronic hearing — sound is fully transmitted through the device.

How do I read the protection levels?

Hear Through passes sound straight through. Light (~10–15 dB) takes the edge off. Moderate (~15–22 dB) is the sweet spot for most loud environments. High (~22–32 dB) is our deepest isolation — heavy snoring and the loudest rooms. NRR ranges are typical — exact ratings vary by fit and filter.

Lanyard or no lanyard?

Pick a lanyard if you remove your plugs frequently or work where dropping a plug is a problem. Skip it if you wear plugs under a helmet, earmuff, or hat — the tab can interfere. You'll choose at checkout on most models.

Can I use Fen X with electronic hearing devices?

Yes — the Comfort Max sleeves are designed to fit AirPod Pro, Bose, Sony, and Stealth/Axil/ATK electronic earplugs. Some come with active amplification or Bluetooth built in.

What if I do more than one activity?

Most customers end up with two pairs — one for sleep or work, one for their primary loud activity. Many of our half-shell designs work across collections (the Strike, Titan, and ShockWave share a chassis with different filters).

How do the filters actually work?

Each filter is a calibrated acoustic insert tuned for a specific environment — impulse noise, music, wind, or speech. Learn how Fen X filters work →
